A few brief remarks on metaphysics

Historically and sort of etymologically the word “metaphysics” formed as a description to Aristotle’s work after his book titled “physics” simply because it came after a title we knew he had penned, namely “physics”. There wasn’t a title given to the book, and after the fire of Alexandria all we had left of his corpus was virtually footnotes and lectures so a title had to be given to demarcate this later division.

But as it is used today I want to produce some personal descriptions because it’s, actually yes, the most important subject matter and the highest form of human thought which scientists and all human beings who think and act may want to pay attention too. I hope my remarks will bring this concept down to earth and cause the reader to appreciate the subject matter and see the power and potential of it’s intellectual consequences. In separating lines and blue words below I will produce independent descriptions for clarity, reflection, and prowess:

The form your thoughts are already in when your thoughts reflect on all possible subject matters, e.g., all possible scientific subjects.

The possibility of informed consciousness and intentionality not in the projective or imagistic sense but in the sense of the mode in which the thoughts of all possibilities are pre-arranged.

The demarcation of the ether of thought that makes hypothesis itself possible in all possibilities of enterprise.

Now I will continue to add descriptions over time, but above are original phrases I’ve used to capture what the subject is up to. Some of those definitions are for the philosophers, but they’re palatable to any thinker, i.e., anyone who will take the time to reflect and read them again and again. As Socrates proved, any pedestrian citizen who can think will come to the same conclusions when the questions are pressed into the ground. Then frame of the subject is unveiled principally Socrates did this with your every day Athenians in ancient Greece ignorant to the equations of geometry. They concluded the same answers because we all share a sort of logical space that we can also call metaphysics.

Now I just gave some abstract definitions of the subject, but what about proof or any argument that it does what I say it does? Well when a subject matter is responsible for the logic of every word and the meaning that the word is an “intellectual picture” than it has to “take care of itself” in the sense that it must be circular. Circularity is bad in the sciences and to hypothesis, but inescapable to metaphysics which is why it’s also so powerful and for me divine, curious, and rapturous. It’s why I’m taking the time to write this. This being said let me now argue in a series of phrases in the same format as above:

If learning mathematics is just a passive construct like a parrot repeating sounds between teacher and learner how is the meaning and the demonstrable application in the physical world an actual enterprise that has effect?

Let me do some exergies on the rhetorical argument above. If meaning is a passive enterprise in which performance of consciousness is meaningless how can the subject have any possible grasp of the meaning of the functions of any intellectual subject matter? If the meaning of the word “random” is “random” and has no rational contingency I concede the output/subject/ai/robot/external mind can appear to have the effect of access to metaphysics but how can we grasp the meaning of the meaning of words like “random'“ over and against words like “meaning” or “purpose”, “telos”, “intention”? In that last rhetorical sentence I have, to the best of my limited abilities, shown the circularity and problem of defining something that is ever out of our grasp yet ever in it because as Wittgenstein said, “what can only be shown cannot be said”. Because “it is always before your eyes” and yet the most concrete yet descriptively illusive. I.e., you cannot say what makes the possibility of teleological thought ever “living”.

(Below I’m going to explore an appendage investigation to metaphysics in the days ahead")
